memorial day pool fun.

yesterday, we headed over to cc’s house for some grillin’ and swimmin’.  it was avery’s first time to swim and i would say she loves it! she wasn’t terribly sure at first but she wasn’t upset at all. after a bottle, she was rarin’ to go and spent the next hour kicking in the water and giggling at everyone. little stinker!! evan thought he was the new michael phelps with all of his swim lesson skill so he had to be watched like a hawk. he did a great job “swimming” and had no problems going under or jumping off the side of the pool! those little munchkins were spent by the time we got home though. it was all we could do to get them in the tub and in jammies :)

out on the boat.

sunday afternoon we rented a boat and took it and the waverunner out on the lake. it was super choppy which made waverunnering a little more difficult! we took the waverunner in early and then spent the rest of the afternoon in the boat. cc watched avery for us which worked out really well with it being so choppy. it was actually gorgeous weather on the lake and not hot at all! evan had a blast riding on the boat and waving to everyone! he wore his lifejacket and didn’t complain about it once which was the biggest thing we were worried about. such a fun afternoon and we’ll be doing it again soon :)

like good parents, we forgot his sunglasses at home so he decided he needed to sport mine {please excuse the black mascara eyes…the waves on the waverunner just about took me out!}

he’s always watching.

as parents you know that your child is always watching and mimicking you but sometimes they do something that reminds you just how closely they are watching you.

last night, evan was a little stinky if you catch my drift :) he walked over to our little diaper changing basket, grabbed his cream, wipes, and a diaper, lined them up on the floor, and then laid down to have his diaper changed all the while telling us exactly what he was getting. wow!!! guess he caught on to the process after about 4 billion diaper changes :) haha!!

funny story.

after church sunday, i went to change avery’s diaper and couldn’t figure out why it looked strange to me. then i realized, the purple colored diapers go on the child that’s almost 2, not the 5 month old :) apparently the ladies in the nursery just grabbed a diaper out of avery’s bag and put it on her. they probably think i’m crazy putting a 5 month old in size 5 diapers!! we keep both diapers in there because that’s the bag we take when we take them both out. i guess they didn’t see the size 2s :)

5 months.

last friday :) avery is such a big girl!!!

i have no idea on height & weight but she’s definitely growing!!

avery is:

  • still wearing a size 2 diaper but as soon as we finish off all the size 2s we received as gifts, she will be moving on up to size 3s.they are getting a little snug but still do the job :) i’m a little sad about this because that means she will be moving from swaddlers {pampers} to cruisers which also means my little girl is growing up:(
  • still wearing 9 and 12 month clothes
  • taking 3-5 ounces at 7ish, 10ish, 1ish, 4ish, and 730ish. sometimes it’s more! i have just {hopefully} broken her of the eating in the middle of the night habit. the past few nights i haven’t given her a bottle until at least 5 am so here’s hoping it sticks!!
  • still eating solids. she has now had sweet potatoes, avocado, apple, and banana. the apple made her a little gassy so we’ll hold off on that for awhile but she seems to enjoy the other foods! i’m also still making all of her food which has worked out pretty nicely! she will eat solids at breakfast and dinner and usually has one of her foods paired with rice cereal, oatmeal, and breastmilk. she is doing so much better “eating” as well. while still messy, it’s not quite as bad as it was at first :)
  • still incredibly happy & such a sweet baby! you know for sure something is wrong when she cries.
  • so aware of her brother. they will giggle at each other for no reason and crack each other up!
  • also very aware of her puppies. she thinks they are hilarious! she has started grabbing & pinching things recently so they may need to keep their distance because i bet one of their ears would be an easy target!
  • still loving her toys and still putting EVERYTHING in her mouth.
  • is a drool machine! she has been for awhile now and we can only guess teething but evan did this and didn’t get his first tooth for forever so who knows!
  • a total wiggle worm! if she’s not strapped in, she can wiggle out of just about anything. this morning, i got her out of her crib and she was on the opposite end facing the opposite direction! silly girl!
  • a chatterbox! there are times she will “talk” for 20 minutes straight.
  • able to sit on the couch if she’s leaned against the back cushions.

love this girl!

teeth accident.

i have a feeling this is the first of many stories like this. tuesday, i came back into my office to find that i had several missed calls and two emails from my hubby to call his cell. usually i always have my cell on me but i had just stepped out into the library and left it on my desk. i immediately called brian and could tell he was at e’s daycare. he told me he had evan and then said “he broke..” and my mind went straight to broken arm, broken leg, etc in the 2 seconds it took for him to say “his tooth.”

apparently our little guy was playing chase with some of the other kids outside and tripped. he managed to crack his two front teeth and scrape up his upper lip.

by the time i got home, brian had given him some ibuprofen and they were snuggling on the couch watching cars – just the right medicine! evan’s upper lip had puffed up quite nicely – i think people pay good money for that kind of plumpness :)

anyway, after some more snuggles, we packed e up and headed to our dentist office. they wanted to take a look at his teeth and see what they thought we needed to do. e was so good for his first dentist visit and even had some xrays taken {of course daddy had to put the paper in his mouth for evan to even think of doing it!}. i don’t think they expected it to be as bad as it was so they referred us to a pediatric specialist.  it was at this point we noticed that he had broken not one, but two of his teeth…ugh!! we couldn’t get an appointment until the next day {yesterday} so we headed home to nap and then go to swimming.  you would never know anything had happened if you didn’t catch a glimpse of his teeth and lip!

IMAG0001

yesterday, we went to the specialist who said that he had just missed exposing a few of the nerves and that he would be fine if we just wanted to leave the teeth as is. we also found out that he had completely torn the frenulum {muscle connecting the gum to the inner part of your mouth in the middle}. she wasn’t very worried about this since it tends to heal on it’s own. as for the teeth, we could have the sharp edges filed down but she said that would happen naturally. in the next couple of weeks, the teeth could turn gray. within the next year, there is also a risk of an abcess – yay! the big question now is whether we want to have them make his teeth look “normal” again. unfortunately, in order to fix them, they would have to put him under anesthesia and would basically do a kid’s root canal and then put a crown on it. none of this sounds great but neither does making our poor child go for at least 4 or 5 years with wonky teeth so that is the big decision for us! for now, he is completely fine and it hasn’t seemed to affect him at all. he’s been such a good boy with all of these doctor’s visits!

here are some pics of his teeth {excuse the food!}

avocados.

avery tried avocados for the first time {well, not exactly…she’s had tastes of my guacamole before :)} monday night. just like her brother, she hasn’t really found a food she doesn’t like yet…not that she’s tried that many :) i may have given her a little too much avocado because she was a little gassy that night but she still enjoyed them!!

evan’s school spring fling.

saturday morning, we headed to the spring school carnival at e’s school. evan had fun playing in the bounce house, watching kids go down the water slide, shooting baskets, and watching the juggling show. he also enjoyed splashing in the puddles in the parking lot :) not so sure that was a planned activity but whatever!

every night, we read evan 2 {or more:) it’s hard to resist “anudder book”!!} books.  two nights ago, brian picked up brown bear and another book to read.  evan has said “brown beeear, brown beeear, what you see?” for awhile but this time, he started doing some of the other animals.  here’s our little performer…

arkansas.

the bright side of this weekend was getting to see and spend time with our arkansas family we don’t see nearly often enough! we got into little rock late friday night and went to melinda’s funeral saturday morning. after the funeral, the church provided a great lunch for the family and then it was naptime for our munchkins.  we headed back to the hotel where everyone but brian got in a nap. we then headed over to melinda & carroll’s house to visit. miss avery got in some aunt helen time while evan enjoyed playing in the backyard with emmy {one of the dogs} and making a mess in the rocks :)
