brian took today off of work (well sort of – he already had 40 hours for the week so technically, he just didn’t show up :)) so that we could have a family day on my last day of maternity leave. earlier in the week, we both, separately, thought of taking evan to the zoo. the weather report came out and after some serious thunderstorms early this morning, it was supposed to be a gorgeous day. the weather didn’t let us down. we couldn’t wait to get to the zoo.
we started the day playing a bit at home and then headed up to the hospital to visit brian’s dad. unfortunately, jim is still in the cardiac icu (only because they didn’t have an available room in the oncology wing – he’s there now) so evan didn’t get to spend any time with grumps but once he’s got his own room, it’s playtime! that also means that our visiting time was limited to an hour. jim was feeling a bit better today which is always great news!
after a short visit, we grabbed some lunch at panera bread – yummy! evan even sat in his infant seat the entire time and no, he wasn’t asleep :)
then it was off to the zoo!! evan obviously had no idea what was going on but had fun riding in his stroller and bri & i had fun walking around and spending some relaxing time together! we even ended up getting a zoo membership so that evan and i (and any one other person :)) can go to the zoo anytime we want for the next year. the membership will be paid for after the next time we go to the zoo so well worth it in my opinion!
we left the zoo and headed to the lake/creek volleyball match at creek. my last team of freshman are now seniors and i really wanted to see this match. i didn’t think i would be able to since they usually play around 6:30 or 7 and that’s when evan’s feeding/bath/getting ready for bed time starts. it is lake’s homecoming night though so varsity played early at 4:30 so the upperclassmen can get to the football game. perfect for us! lake won in 5!! good job girls!!
we then headed home, ate dinner, had bath time and bed time feeding, and evan went to bed. what a great family day!! the best part is we still have the rest of the weekend ahead of us!

It sounds like you had a great time. Glad to hear that Evan's gramps is doing a bit better too.
