week 2.

evan had a busy 2nd week!  it started with the newborn pics and softball game on tuesday night.  then he went up to katy to see vanpa inducted as president of his rotary club.  he was very well behaved but we didn’t get any pics of the night.  nanny & vanpa did so hopefully we’ll get ahold of some of those pictures to share.  he was quite a hit! 

on friday morning, uncle james flew in to meet evan.  we got up and around and picked up uncle james at the airport at 8:30.  when we got home, uncle james needed a nap so he and rylea took one on the couch while evan took one and let me take a shower. 

 

once everyone woke up, evan ate and then took a 3 hour nap on uncle james.  i think they both enjoyed that.  evan might have uncle james wrapped around his finger now!

that afternoon, nanny & vanpa came down to see james & evan and then brian’s family came over – even aunt ashley was in town - and we grilled fajitas for everyone…

 

nanny, vanpa, uncle james, & aunt baley spent friday night and on saturday morning, after evan’s morning feeding, vanpa took evan so that brian and i had a chance to catch a little extra sleep.  it was great!!  we had a late breakfast and then the katy crew headed home and we spent the day relaxing as a family.  have i mentioned how much i love having brian at home with us?!?! :) 

sunday, the katy crew headed back down for a father’s day lunch.  we decided to grill steaks and they were yummy!!  we hope everyone had a great father’s day!  brian had a somewhat mellow first father’s day since evan and i didn’t have a chance to get out to get him something but we will fix that soon ;)

 

on his 2 week birthday, evan spent the day with me and then we had more family time when daddy got home.  evan discovered sucking on daddy’s finger and also enjoyed some snuggle time on the couch with mummy & his puppies…

in the midst of all of this, evan got his first piece of mail – what a big boy!!!

busy tuesday.

tuesday morning, we took evan to get newborn pictures taken.  he was so good (minus the small accident problem when we took his diaper off for naked baby pics :)).  we were there for over 2 hours and he was fairly well behaved.  after pictures, we headed to perry’s market & grill in friendswood for lunch.  this was evan’s first restaurant outing and he did great – in other words, he slept!  we headed home and i took a nap.  the night before i had been up a little more than usual.  tuesday evening, it was nice out and there was a great breeze so i took the little man to watch his daddy’s softball game at JSC.

one week old.

evan turned one week old on monday.  we had a fun day at home and mrs. kim brought us dinner that night.  it was super!! thank you so much! 

i only managed to get pictures of him in his swing for some reason.

evan :: sunday.

looking at pictures, today must have been evan & rylea day.  rylea was all about snuggling with or sitting right next to evan all day long.  we’ve been moving fairly slowly each morning spending most of the morning in our pjs and finally getting around somewhere around noon. 

evan will usually play on his rainforest playmat while we eat breakfast & rylea felt the need to guard him this morning.
 
after we got around, we were all sitting on the couch and rylea became his boppy.

we went over to grumps & cc’s house and sat outside for awhile -  evan loved the breeze.  then we went inside and ate dinner while evan was spoiled by everyone there (aunt barbie, marcie, & brittany cole were there as well!)

evan :: saturday.

i just realized that we took no pictures yesterday…what are we thinking?!?!?

yesterday was pretty busy.  we had another day of fun around the house for most of the day.  nanny and vanpa were supposed to be down for the weekend but nanny got sick so it was just us.  evan has been having problems latching on so he’s been taking bottles and i’ve had to pump.  we decided to try the shield and it worked perfectly!  that was our only issue (we’re so lucky!) and the fact that that took care of the latching problem was such a big relief!  we had to go to babies r us to get the shield and we also stopped off at fry’s for some batteries and joann’s to get the letters to put up in his room (i would have loved for them to be done already but that whole not having a name thing caused a bit of a problem:))

last night, aunt barbie & kelcie came over as did megan & byron.  evan had fun “entertaining” everyone – although i think rylea & addie took that role upon themselves. 

all of the pictures have been uploaded to our picture site.  the link is on the right.  we will be keeping that updated with new pictures each day (that we remember to take pictures :)). 

evan :: friday.

first doctors appointment!  we took evan to his well-baby appt this morning at 10.  he is seeing dr. abbott, the same pediatrician brian saw when he was little (and coincidentally, the dad of my old ob-gyn who stopped delivering babies the month before i got pregnant).  after getting ourselves around and getting everything together, we made it to the appt with time to spare.  it was so nice getting out of the house!  dr. abbott said that he is doing great!  when we left the hospital, evan weighed 8lb15oz but at his appt yesterday, he was back up to 9lb4oz so the kiddo is definitely doing well!

dr. abbott said it was fine to take him out and about so we made a quick trip to target to pick up a few things we needed.  i got a picture of his first trip to target since it’s one of my favourite stores!!

we picked up lunch and then headed home.  evan’s been really observant so we put together his rainforest playmat.  brian put him on it for a bit and addie sat down next to him and watched to make sure he was ok.  sooooooo cute!!

while evan was napping on my lap, rylea decided she wanted to snuggle with him as well so i ended up with both of them asleep on me. they’re so good with him!

rylea also doesn’t understand that evan’s not old enough to throw her ball for her.   she spends a large part of her day dropping her ball on his lap for him to throw for her.  poor baby!

my great-grandfather, pa burl, made a rocking cradle when my grandma was pregnant with my youngest uncle (he’s 7 years older than me).  he used it and so have all of the great-grandchildren.  now we have it and evan is the first of the next generation to get to use it.  it’s so special and he had his first nap in it yesterday.

 

evan :: thursday.

we got up thursday morning and started getting around.  it’s amazing how long it takes to get around with a newborn but it’s so worth it!  we gave the little man his first “bath” and he was so not a fan!  i can’t wait to give him a proper bath!

while mummy showered and got around, evan and daddy (& 2 weimie puppies) had snuggle/nap time :)

we hung out at home all day and then spent the evening with grumps & cc. aunt barbie & marcie came by as well.  it was nice just relaxing and enjoying the evan man.

 

ps…one of my best friends, laura, had her little girl, mckenna, today.  she is a precious little girl and we can’t wait to meet her!  i can’t believe we’ve been best friends since junior high and had our first munchkins 3 day apart!!

evan :: wednesday.

going home!!!!  we were so excited to be going home on wednesday morning.  slr,my doctor, had come by the night before to let us know she would be there at 9:30 to sign the discharge papers so we could head home asap.  have i mentioned she’s the best?? :) 

we got up and got evan ready to go – so exciting to put him in “normal” clothes!!  we thought the onesie was perfect since he was called little man for so long!

 

we loaded up the car and made the trek home. 

we hung out at home for a little while before brian went and got the girls from doggie daycare.  they were REALLY sweet with him and after the initial excitement at meeting him, were so protective and sweet with him.  addie is more maternal and wouldn’t leave his side while rylea was still a little confused about what was going on.  

nanny & vanpa showed up a little later with dinner.  i was so excited to have a home cooked meal!  it was really yummy!  brian & dad also shared a glass of yummy (their words, not mine!) scotch to “wet the baby’s head.”  it’s apparently an english tradition although i’ve been warned there will be a repeat performance when my family from england gets here :)  my daddy also brought me some gorgeous flowers – i promise i’m not a daddy’s girl ;)  dad headed home while mum stayed here to help if we needed our first night.  evan got in a little nanny snuggle time before bed – i just don’t think she bargained for snuggling with addie as well.

evan :: tuesday.

tuesday was our first full day with evan at the hospital.  we spent the day hanging out in the room and evan had his little boy surgery early in the afternoon.  he was a little fussy afterwards so the nursery nurses brought him back to our room for a little tlc a little earlier than normal.  it was just what the dr ordered and he was fine the rest of the day.

we also had visitors on tuesday afternoon.  sara, kaleb, and cathy came to see the little man as did some of my bible study peeps – stacia, margot, julie, & shannon.  it was fun to see everyone – especially since being cooped up in the hospital was not at all my idea of fun.  nanny, vanpa, grumps, and cc also came by to see evan and spent the evening spoiling him :)

we are so completely in love! our little man, evan, arrived monday at 11:39am. he weighs 9.5lbs and is 21.25in long.

the story:
on sunday morning, around 2:25ish, i got up to go to the restroom and lost my mucous plug (gross i know!). immediately after, i started having what i thought were cramps every 15 minutes. the next morning, we got up and brian went to play softball while i went and got my toenails done – the important things!! when i got home, i called mum to ask what contractions felt like – i just had a feeling there was something more to my cramps. sure enough, she told me i was having contractions and to start timing them. at this point, they were 3-5 minutes apart so we called the nurse, took the girls to doggie daycare, and headed down to the hospital to be checked out. my nurse, maria, checked me out and i was about 1.5 cm dilated and 90% effaced. the on call doctor said to walk around for an hour and see if the contractions caused any more change. if so, they would keep me (especially since i was scheduled for an induction the next morning – although come to find out, that probably wouldn’t have happened with how busy they were!). i walked for an hour and only dilated 1/2cm more. the doctor wanted me to take some medicine that would stop the contractions if i wasn’t really in labor or would do nothing if i was. i took the medicine and my contractions got worse. i then had to walk around for another hour and see what happened. after an hour, nothing had changed and my nurse, elizabeth, said that the doctor wanted to give me a shot to stop labor. this seemed dumb to me since i was full term and scheduled for an induction the next day anyway. so i refused the shot. my contractions continued to get worse so they gave me some pain medication so that i could sleep and my dr. would be in in the morning.

the next morning, my doctor came in (pissed i might add at what i’d been asked to take the night before) and started me on pitocin. within 10 minutes, i was 5 cm dilated and was given my epidural. about an hour after that, my new nurse, cindy, checked me again and i was complete!!! within 10 minutes, cindy had me pushing and less than 20 minutes after i started pushing, she had called in my doctor to deliver evan! it was really quick & a very uneventful delivery! i love my doctor and had the best nurse when it was actually time to have him…i couldn’t have been happier!

we were shocked when he was measured at 9.5 lbs! he is an adorable little boy (i’m not biased, i swear!) and we are so incredibly in love with him. let the pictures begin!!
